A story about Michael Leunig

He’s Australia’s funniest, wittiest, most prolific cartoonist ever! There is something about his particular style of humour and social commentary that just really appeals to me :)

Why I want to meet Andrew

Because he seems real, interesting, intelligent, fun, witty, compassionate, creative and a lateral thinker. And because I love reading his entries on 43 Things!

A story about me

CHILDHOOD IS PRECIOUS….......
My oldest son has bipolar type 2 and ADD. This means that he has some very original ways of thinking, interpreting things and doing things…........
When he was about 3 years old, one hot blistery day, I was outside hanging up the washing. When I came back in and went into the kitchen, there he was, buck naked, standing on a chair, swivelling his hips, going “shhht, shhht, shhh, shhh” and weeing in a perfect circle onto the floor. “What on earth are you doing??” I asked him. Not stopping what he was doing, he just looked at me very seriously and said, in a totally reasonable voice, “I’m being a sprinkler”.
Another hot day,I found him hiding under the blankets in his bed. When I pulled away the blankets, I found that he had scribbled permanent black texta all over his body. “What are you doing?” I asked him. Very seriously again, he said, “Why, I’m being hairy man of course”. He has since grown up to get his wish, cos, yes, he’s a pretty hairy fellow now.
Childhood is precious and oh so brief. Never forget that when you are with your children.

A story about Jared Leto

Don’t know who this dude is, but he looks pretty hot :)

A story about me

Thirteen years ago…....
I met him at work. He wasn’t my usual type. He was overweight and had a really high voice, like Bart Simpson on helium. But he made me laugh, seemed to be kind and gave me lifts home from work. He kind of grew on me. Within a very short time we were dating. Within a month, he’d moved himself in. Within 6 months, upon his insistance, we were engaged, and married a month later. Whirlwind romance, you say? Not on your nelly!
Within a year, I found out that he was a world class actor, was actually very cruel, had no sex drive to speak of, loved being hateful and mean to my kids, and was mummy’s little boy. I stayed with him for 6 miserable years, kept on telling myself, things will change, have hope have hope, he’s not really that bad is he? Is he? No, he’s actually worse. Finally tore myself away, only to find out later that he’s tricked me into signing ( what I thought were just property settlement papers ) custody of our son over to him. Anyway, it’s now almost 6 years after all that, and I’m no longer reeling from the effects. We will never be friends, but we do at least communicate and negotiate regarding our son’s welfare.
The moral of the story:
If he looks like Shrek, talks like Bart Simpson, but has the morals and soul of Hitler and Ghengis Khan combined, run baby run for those hills!!!

One thing you probably didn't know about me

Is that I have Bipolar disorder. My close friends didn’t believe me when I told them. They say I’m so upbeat, positive, always cheerful and smiling. Well, that is true of me, now.
I suffered with unexplained mood swings for many years, exascerbated by some very deeply traumatic life experiences. Finally, after having trialled umpteen medications, I got hold of a psychiatrist who hit upon the right kind and right combination of medications for me. I’ve actually reduced my dosages drastically over the last year, and am still doing absolutely fine. The only thing is that I need a tad more sleep than the average yogi bear, and tend to take things a bit more slowly and gradually than I used to. I also think I’m actually finally growing up a bit, though also learning more to relax and have fun.
Anyway, if you are reading this and you also suffer from bipolar or have a rellie who does, don’t hesitate to contact me for advice or support.

One thing you probably didn't know about me

Is that I’ve had some of my writings published in the past. I’ve had heaps of poems and stories published in alternative magazines, but unfortunately these were lost during some of my numerous house moves :(
I’ve also had my photos and stories published in New Idea and That’s Life magazines. I actually got paid for my piece in That’s Life.
If you want to read a story about one phase of my past life ( from which I have now well and truly moved on ), have a look at the book titled “Who’d Be a Mother”, edited by Carolyn Lee and Susan Burke. “Giving Sorrow Words” edited by Melinda Tankard Reist also has a reference to me at the start of the book. I haven’t had anything published since, but will probably work on something once I’ve finished my Diploma in Children’s Services at the end of this year. Finally.
So keep your eye on this space…....

One thing you probably didn't know about me

Is that people are constantly telling me that I look much younger than my age :)
So it must be true.
I don’t know, cos I look in the mirror, and I just see me. Every now and then I give myself a smile or a wink :)
Well if I don’t then who else will…..haha
Anyway I’m glad cos mostly I prefer guys who are younger than me. They’re generally more fun, more open, more interesting, easier to hang around with, not so set in their ways, more inventive, better to talk to. And well, in bed, they are generally….mmmmm….

My year in review

Turned up late for Tafe nearly everyday! Shite! The teachers r startin to ask me if I’m okay. Can’t tell them it’s just slackitis I’m sufferin from. Well I’ve decided to excercise a lil more self discipline in future and actually go to bed at a time that would guarantee I wake up in time to catch the quarter to 8 train the next morning!
Other than that, I’ve had better communication this year with my ex regarding when and how often I can have access to my 9 year old son ( that’s another story for another time )
My son has also been diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, so now his teachers, myself and my ex have a better understanding of his little irks and quirks and how to best address his needs.
My toyboy has now become more of a friend than a toyboy, and that suits me fine. Still lookin for that Wentworth Miller lookalike.
My diet’s still not ideal. Though I do eat plenty of vegies and fruit cos i love them.
I already have about fifty million assignments to do for school. At least some of them are fun.
I’m sort of both dreading and looking forward to my birthday in May, cos it’s one of those special ones with a zero on the end of it :(
Anyway, so far for this year, I’ve just been mainly feeling more and more positive and happy. And content to be me.
